How to make a QR code for a WhatsApp group

    1. Open the group infoIn WhatsApp, open the group and tap its name. You must be an admin, or admins must have allowed members to invite.
    2. Copy the invite linkTap "Invite via link", then "Copy link". It starts with https://chat.whatsapp.com/.
    3. Paste it above and style the codeAdd a logo, your colors and a frame such as "JOIN OUR GROUP".
    4. Scan it and printTest on a phone that is not yet in the group, then download PNG for sharing or SVG and PDF for print.

WhatsApp's own group QR code or this one?

WhatsApp already shows a plain QR code on the invite screen. Use that if you only need to show it on your phone. Use this generator when the code will go on paper or represent your brand.

Both codes depend on the same invite link. A QR code can't keep a group open by itself, so treat the invite link as the thing to protect.

Why a group QR code stops working

The link was reset. Any admin can tap "Reset link" on the invite screen. The old link dies at once, and so does every printed code. Agree with your other admins not to reset it, or reprint when you do.

The group is full. WhatsApp limits how many people can be in a group. Once it is full, new people can't join. Start a second group or move to a community.

The person was removed earlier. Someone an admin removed may not be able to rejoin with the link.

"Approve new participants" is on. That isn't a fault: the person's request waits for an admin. Say so near the code ("We approve requests within a day") so nobody thinks it failed.

    Keep your group safe

A printed code is a public invitation. Anyone who sees it can scan it, and group members can usually see each other's phone numbers.

    • Turn on Approve new participants in group settings for anything posted in a public place.
    • Limit who can edit group info and, for announcements, who can send messages.
    • For public updates, consider a WhatsApp channel, where followers can't see each other's numbers. Copy the channel link and paste it in the same way. Community invite links work too.
    • Don't post a parents' or children's group code where the public can see it.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I get a QR code for my WhatsApp group?

Open the group, tap its name, tap "Invite via link" and copy the link. Paste it into the box on this page and download your code.

Is this WhatsApp group QR code free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on scans. The code is made in your browser.

Does a WhatsApp group QR code expire?

The code has no expiry date. It stops working only if an admin resets the invite link, or if the group is deleted.

Can only admins create a group QR code?

Admins can always get the invite link. Members can get it only if the group settings allow them to invite others.

Can I add a logo to the QR code?

Yes. Upload it in the Logo section. We raise the error correction automatically so the code still scans.

Will people see my phone number after they join?

Group members can usually see each other's numbers. For public audiences, a WhatsApp channel is a more private choice.

Can I make a QR code for a WhatsApp channel or community?

Yes. Copy the channel or community link from WhatsApp and paste it here. It works the same way.
