QR Codes for Real Estate

Buyers walk past your board at 9 p.m. when your office is closed. A QR code gives them the photos, price and your number right there, and it never expires.

How to make a real estate QR code

    1. Choose what the code opensA listing page, a virtual tour, a WhatsApp chat with you, or your contact card. Use one clear purpose per code.
    2. Paste the link or enter your detailsFor a listing, paste the page link from your website or portal. For WhatsApp or a contact card, switch to that tab.
    3. Add a frame with a clear action"SCAN FOR PHOTOS & PRICE" or "SCAN TO BOOK A VISIT" works better than a bare code.
    4. Download a vector file and test itUse SVG or PDF for boards and banners, then test a printed sample from the pavement.

Where QR codes work in real estate

    PlacementWhat the code opensFrame text
"For sale" / "To let" boardListing page with photos and price"SCAN FOR PHOTOS & PRICE"
Project hoarding or site bannerProject page, floor plans, brochure PDF"SCAN FOR FLOOR PLANS"
Printed brochureVirtual tour or walkthrough video"TAKE THE VIRTUAL TOUR"
Newspaper or flyer adWhatsApp chat with a pre-written enquiry"CHAT WITH US ON WHATSAPP"
Visiting cardContact card (vCard)"SAVE MY NUMBER"
Open house / site visit deskGoogle Form for visitor details"REGISTER YOUR VISIT"
After the saleGoogle review link"REVIEW US ON GOOGLE"

Listing portals change addresses, expire old listings and sometimes show a competitor's properties next to yours. Wherever you can, point the code at a page on your own website (for example yoursite.com/greenview-3bhk) and link to the portal from there. When the property sells, change that page to "Sold, see similar homes" instead of leaving a dead link on a board that may stay up for months.

Signs read from the road need big codes

A board is often scanned from across the street. Use the 10:1 rule: the code should be about one tenth of the scanning distance.

    Scanning distanceMinimum code width
    1 m (brochure, window card)10 cm
    3 m (gate board)30 cm
    5 m (across a lane)50 cm

Keep the link short so the code has fewer, larger modules, and use dark dots on a white panel; avoid placing the code on a photo. Our size calculator gives exact sizes.

    Regulatory details in India

Real estate advertising in India is regulated by each state's RERA. Some regulators, notably MahaRERA in Maharashtra, require a project's own registration QR code on advertisements. That code is issued by the regulator and must be printed as provided. Add your marketing code separately, clearly labelled, so buyers don't confuse the two. Rules change, so check your state RERA's current guidelines before printing.

WhatsApp works better than a phone number

Many buyers would rather message than call. A WhatsApp QR code can open a chat with a pre-written message such as "Hi, I'm interested in the 3BHK at Greenview, Sector 12". You know exactly which property they mean, even when you advertise several. Use a different pre-written message for each board.

    Measure which boards bring enquiries

Add a UTM tag per placement, such as ?utm_source=board&utm_campaign=greenview, to the listing link. Your website analytics will show which board, flyer or newspaper ad brings visits. Static codes don't count scans themselves, but you'll know where serious buyers come from.

    • Outdoor boards: print on matte vinyl or ACP, as gloss reflects sunlight into the camera.
    • Leave a white margin (quiet zone) around the code of at least four modules.
    • Brochures: put the code on the page that shows the floor plan, where interest is highest.
    • Use our printable templates for counter cards at site offices.

    Frequently asked questions

What should a real estate QR code link to?

A listing page on your own website is best. You can update it when the property sells and link to portals from there.

How big should the QR code be on a for-sale sign?

About one tenth of the scanning distance: 30 cm wide for a board read from 3 metres.

Can the code open WhatsApp with a message about the property?

Yes. Use the WhatsApp tab and write a pre-filled message naming the property.

Will the QR code stop working after the listing ends?

The code never expires. Point it at a page you control and update that page when the property sells.

Can I use my own QR code instead of the RERA QR code?

No. Where your regulator requires its QR code, print it as issued and add your marketing code separately.

Can I make codes for many listings at once?

Yes. Use the bulk QR code generator with a spreadsheet of listing links.
