How to put a logo in a QR code
- Enter your contentA link is most common, but any type works: WiFi, vCard, WhatsApp…
- Upload your logoOpen the Logo section and drop in a PNG, JPG, SVG or WebP. A square logo with a transparent background looks best.
- Adjust the sizeKeep the logo between 20% and 40% of the code. Leave "Clear the dots behind the logo" on for a clean look.
- Match your brand and check the scan testUse your brand color for the dots and corners, then confirm the green "Scan test passed" message.
How can a QR code still work with a logo on top?
QR codes contain error correction: extra, redundant data that lets a scanner rebuild missing parts of the code. That's what lets a slightly damaged or dirty code still scan, and it's also what makes room for a logo.
| Level | Can recover | Use for |
|---|---|---|
| L | ~7% | Clean, large prints without a logo |
| M | ~15% | Default for most codes |
| Q | ~25% | Industrial use, small logos |
| H | ~30% | Codes with a logo |
When you upload a logo, we automatically switch to level H. A logo that covers about 20–30% of the area leaves a healthy safety margin; above ~40% the code may fail on some phones. The live scan test under the preview tells you immediately if your design has gone too far.
Logo tips from designers
- Use a simple, square version of your logo: an icon or monogram works better than a long wordmark.
- Transparent PNG or SVG blends in best. A logo on a white square also works well.
- Keep the dots dark. Use your darkest brand color for the dots and put brighter accent colors in the logo and the corner squares ("eyes").
- Don't cover the three corner squares. They tell the scanner where the code is. The logo always sits in the center here.
- Print a test. On-screen and in-print colors differ; scan a printed proof before ordering hundreds.
No watermark, no expiry, no upload
Plenty of sites let you add a logo, then stamp their own watermark on it or make you subscribe to download a usable file. Here you get a clean, high-resolution PNG (up to 4000 px), a vector SVG and a PDF, all free. Your logo is processed in your browser and never uploaded, which matters if you're working on an unreleased brand.
Need many branded codes at once? The bulk QR code generator applies the same design to hundreds of links. Want to double-check an existing logo QR code? Run it through the scannability checker.
No logo file? Use text
If you don't have a suitable logo, type up to 12 characters in "Or put text in the center" (in the Logo section) and click Use text. We draw a neat badge with your text, such as your initials, "MENU", "Wi-Fi" or "PAY", and place it in the middle of the code with error correction H.
Logo file checklist
| Check | Why |
|---|---|
| Square or nearly square | Wide logos get very small when fitted into the center |
| Transparent PNG or SVG | Blends into the code without a white box |
| Simple shapes, few colors | Fine detail disappears at small print sizes |
| At least 300 × 300 px | Stays sharp in large downloads |
| High contrast with the dots | The logo shouldn't look like part of the pattern |
Testing a logo code properly
- Watch the scan test message under the preview while you adjust the logo size.
- Download the final file and run it through the scannability checker, which estimates how much of the code your logo covers.
- Print it at the real size and scan it with an older phone as well as a new one. Older cameras are less forgiving.
Brand colors without losing scans
Choose your darkest brand color for the dots. Use "Different color for the corner squares" to bring in a second brand color, which is very visible but doesn't affect the data. Gradients work if both colors are dark. The quick styles show safe combinations.
Frequently asked questions
Will adding a logo stop my QR code from working?
Not if it's sized sensibly. We use error correction level H (30% recovery) and the live scan test warns you if the design becomes unreadable.
What is the best logo size?
Between 20% and 35% of the code width is ideal. Up to about 40% usually still works with level H.
Which file format should my logo be?
PNG with a transparent background or SVG works best. JPG and WebP are fine too. Very wide logos are scaled to fit.
Is there a watermark on the download?
Never. Downloads are clean, full-resolution and free for commercial use.
Is my logo uploaded to your server?
No. The logo is read and embedded by your browser. It never leaves your computer.
Can I remove the white area behind the logo?
Yes. Untick "Clear the dots behind the logo". The dots will then run underneath the logo; this works best with transparent logos.
